LIVER MERIDIAN

Liver Meridian

Liver Meridian Energetically

In Balance

Free, independent, purposeful, and expansive. A strong Liver meridian helps you see where you want to go and move toward it without feeling restricted. Like the Liberator, you value freedom and have the courage to create change when something is holding you or others back.

Out of Balance

Frustrated, restricted, resentful, or stuck. When the Liver meridian is out of balance, you may feel blocked from moving in the direction you want to go. Anger can build when you feel controlled or unable to create change, or you may give up your own freedom to take care of everyone else.

Liver Functions

Western Medicine

In Western medicine, the liver is one of the body’s major processing centers. It filters the blood, breaks down toxins and medications, helps regulate blood sugar and cholesterol, produces bile for digestion, and stores important nutrients.

Eastern Medicine

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the liver meridian influences our overall emotional state. It stores blood which is the carrier of Qi in the body. Without proper flow, Qi and blood cannot flow smoothly. Since it plays such a crucial role in controlling our blood, our liver also helps regulate menstruation in women.

Our liver meridian is responsible for the digestive functions of the Stomach and Spleen meridians. Our muscular activity, including flexibility of tendons and ligaments, is also controlled by the liver meridian. It is said to be home to the “Hun,” a concept from TCM that is considered the yang part of our soul or spirit.
